Members of the SCDXA Head to Aruba for the IARU Contest July, 2020

Two Members of the SCDXA- South Carolina DX Association will travel to Aruba in July, 2020. The purpose of the trip is to work the IARU Contest. We will also make as many casual contacts as possible during the week. Members Bill Chartier N4IQ, Bob Cieszenski ND7J, will be departing July 8, and return July 15, 2020. Look for them on the bands during this period, and during the contest. Check the online log(s) to see if you’re in one or both of our logs. This will be updated as much as possible during the trip. We will update photos as much as we can during the trip. Bob and Bill where the team leaders for the trip to Prince Edward Island in 2015. This Team took first place in their section for the IARU Contest.

Bands

We will be operating 10-160 SSB / CW / RTTY / FT 8 / FT 4. We will operate on these bands and modes as conditions allow.
We will operate split for the most part, during our casual operations.

During the Contest we will operate SSB and CW.

Contest

The team will operate as P4/N4IQ during the contest. We will operate for the entire 24 hour period on both SSB and CW.

Other Stuff

During our stay on Aruba we will operate the stations to make as many contacts as possible. We will however be enjoying some to the fun in the sun things to do while on the island. Look for us during the morning and evening hours mostly, but you may see us on air at most any time.

Bill Chartier - N4IQ


Bill is an accomplished DXer and avid contester. Bill operates from his station in Simpsonville SC.

Licensed since 1963 (WN4OWY): Extra since 1969. My call N4iQ (1974) is an original - not a vanity call. Ham interests: cw (my primary mode), digital modes, dxing and contesting. I am a member of the Greer (SC) ARC, CW Ops, Swamp Fox Contest Group, SC DX Association and South East Contest Club and the SCDXA. Awards: confirmed DXCC 337 mixed (includes deleted countries) - worked on wires and vertical antennas, all worked with my own equipment at my own qth. ARRL DXCC Challenge Award (Working on Level III), CW-Phone-Digital DXCC, 9 Band DXCC, 9 Band WAS, WAS Triple Play, ARRL RTTY WAS #34 (mid-70's on the Green Keys & ST-6), WPX (1900 +), WAZ, VUCC/6m-300+ plus numerous contest awards. I enjoy working with antennas; mobile & portable operating. Other interests: RC aircraft flying. My twin Brother is Phil, AC4Q . Younger brother, Jon, is WN4GM near Orlando, Fl. My Older brother, Bob - KI4VRP, and my mother, Maxine - KB4QYF, became SKs in 2013. They are still greatly missed. My XYL, Elaine, and I have been together since 1967 - a record in these times.

Bill (N4IQ/VY2) was part of the team to P.E.I. in 2015 and operated in the IARU contest. This team was section winner!

Bill served as a Vietnam Era Army Veteran. Career wise, I am a retired registered consulting engineer (PE - electrical); alumnus of Auburn University and Clemson University. Go Tigers!!! Also, I am also a retired registered medical imaging technologist and taught medical imaging courses at a local college for ten years.

Bob Cieszenski- ND7J

Bob is relatively new to ham radio with 5 years as a ham, getting his extra in 2014. Bob has accomplished 300 DXCC, 7 Band DXCC in the short time as a ham. Bob operates from his home station in Edneyville, NC.

Also hold a 100 Ton Masters Captains License. I have traveled all the great lakes by sail boat, as well as many of the worlds oceans, logging over 35,000 miles. I am also a Web and Graphic designer.

Bob Also traveled to P.E.I in 2015 to participate in the IARU Contest with Bill.
